Date

Princess Eugenie’s mother, Fergie, the Duchess of York, has announced today that her youngest daughter is pregnant. On her Instagram account the Duchess of York has posted a string of pictures of her daughter and her husband Jack Brooksbank (34) as well as a a tiny fluffy set of baby shoes. The post was captioned “soon to be a granny and granddad”, also referring to her ex-husband Prince Andrew. The baby will be Princess Eugenie’s first one and also the first grandchild for Prince Andrew and his ex-wife the Duchess of York.

Earlier this week rumors have already emerged that Princess Eugenie (30) might be pregnant as she was photographed shopping in London. The pictures taken clearly showed a beaming and blossoming princess. Eugenie wore a black, floral printed long dress and strolled through Notting Hill fully aware of the photographers around her. She clearly looked happy and proud as if to finally show the world that she is expecting. Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank got married in October 2018 at Windsor Castle.

One can assume that with the announcement, Eugenie followed the unofficial palace guideline according to which pregnancies are only being made official after the first trimester into the pregnancy. The reason for this rule is simply that after the first three months of a pregnancy, medically the chances are quite high that the pregnancy will end successfully. After that is very unlikely that the mother will lose her child.

Eugenie’s baby will be due in April 2021 as her mother has revealed. That baby will be the Queen’s ninth great-grandchild! Queen Elizabeth II. and her husband Prince Philip have four children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. With this impressive family tree, the Queen belongs to the few monarchs though all times who actually lives to see her family grow so big. Her father, King George VI. died at a comparably very young age and only got to live to see his daughter’s first two children, Prince Charles and Princess Anne.

The new baby will bring about a few changes in the line of succession. Once born the baby will be 11th in line to the British throne. The change, however, has little impact on the direct line of heirs with Prince Charles, the Queen’s eldest son, still being the heir to throne, followed by his son William and then his son Prince George. The new baby will probably will meet quite often with its cousins Prince George (7), Princess Charlotte (5) and Prince Louis (2) in the future as Princess Eugenie and her husband also live in Kensington Palace as well as Prince William and his wife Catherine.
