“The Coin She’d Never Ask For” — Princess Anne at 75

At 75, Princess Anne is receiving an honor even she might find slightly unnecessary — a commemorative coin minted in her name. It’s the first time a living non-monarch royal has received such recognition from the Royal Mint. And in true Anne fashion, she’ll likely nod politely, shrug, and head off to her next engagement before the ink on the press release is even dry.
“She never wanted to be the face of anything,” said a former Palace aide. “Which is exactly why this means something.”
While Anne has spent her life deflecting attention, she’s also quietly earned it. In 2024, she logged more official engagements than any other royal — despite a head injury that might have slowed down someone with even half her stamina. Anne’s brand of royalty isn’t gilded in glamour; it’s stitched together in practicality, grit, and duty.
The coin — a polished silver £5 piece — features her profile and a simple inscription: “The Princess Royal 75 Years.” It’s a tribute from the institution she’s helped uphold without theatrics for over five decades.

Born in 1950 to Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Anne was never destined for the throne — and never wanted it. Her job has always been to serve: not with pomp, but with purpose. She’s held military roles, presided over Save the Children for over 50 years, and remains the only British royal to have competed in the Olympics.

“She’s a bit scary,” Prince Harry once joked. “But in the best possible way.”
Even King Charles has remarked on his sister’s tenacity. “Anne has always had this extraordinary ability to connect with people without needing the spotlight,” he said in a rare tribute. “She’s a force.”

Her work ethic is legendary — so is her directness. In one BBC interview, when asked if she ever considered slowing down, she famously quipped:
“Slow down? I don’t think that word’s in my dictionary.”
“She’s a reluctant icon,” said one longtime friend. “She never asked for adoration. And yet here we are — admiring her more than ever.”
As the monarchy navigates a new era, it might just be Anne — sharp, steady, and stubbornly selfless — who defines its future, simply by being herself.
